Ice, Ice, Baby

This has been a very icy winter. We've spent hours chipping ice off the walk and driveways and almost as much time driving from store to store looking for sand and ice melt (it's worse than finding the hottest toy at Christmas). But the worst problem has to be the ice dams. That's what happens when you have snow and ice on your roof -- blocking (or damming) the melting snow/ice from running off the right way. So it comes down the wrong way -- running under the shingles and into the house. What a mess.

We've roof-raked and chipped ice as best we could -- but there's no way we're going to get up on the roof and shovel it off -- I wouldn't do that on a perfect summer day! As of right now, the leaks seem to have stopped, but there's more snow predicted for today. Guess I won't pick up the newspapers lining the floor or move the furniture back where it belongs - yet.

A couple days ago we noticed our front entry light wasn't working. B-Dad said it had frozen and he couldn't get the cover off. Well.....it finally warmed up enough to get the cover off. The water had run into the fixture itself -- with the globe forming a perfect mold.
