Palmies - New and Improved

I wear my Palmies mitts all the time -- outside in the spring and fall, inside in the winter when the house is a bit too chilly to type comfortably. But I thought the fact that it used a crochet hook/techniques might be off-putting to some.  So I redesigned the finger openings and updated the pattern -- no crochet hook required....and it looks pretty much the same as the original!

To make things even clearer, here are some in process pictures of making the finger openings. The sample piece shows just the top portion of the mitts. For clarity, the yarn and needles shown are larger than that called for in the pattern; the piece is also done in stockinette stitch only for simplicity.

Making the fingers divisions is done in four rounds - each shorter than the previous one. Each round starts/ends at the thumb side.

Round 1: Little finger

Round 2: Ring finger

Round 3: Middle finger

Round 4: Index finger
