Happy Birthday Barbie

Friends and I were talking about Barbie's 50th birthday and how we should take pictures of our Barbies. I had to admit that mine seemed to have lost all her clothes through the years (and it's been a lot of years). Well, a couple days later I was at the library looking at knitting books and what did I see? Yes, ....Knits for Barbie Doll: 75 Fabulous Fashions for Knitting -- someone had actually written a book about knitting Barbie clothes. Obviously there was only one thing to do.....make something. This pattern is my own, not from the book.

Materials Needed

Yarn: Paton's Brilliant - about 20 grams (70 yards)
Ribbon: Narrow -- about 12 inches
Fabric: Shiny polyester - about 3x9 inches
Size 2 double-pointed needles
Small button

Dress
: Cast on 32 stitches.

Row 1: Knit (right side)
Row 2: Knit
Row 3: Purl
Row 4: Purl

Continue in stockinette stitch for 1 inch. Place marker to indicate beginning of round and join to knit in the round. Knit every round until dress measures 5 inches (or desired length). YO, K1 to end of round (64 stitches). Continue to knit every round until dress measure 7 inches (or desired length).

Purl next round. Bind off in purl stitch.

Weave in loose ends. Sew small button on back, just under top edge. Add corresponding button-loop to opposite side. Thread narrow ribbon through eyelets and tie with bow or knot.

Shawl. Fold fabric in half lengthwise and sew hem. Pull threads to create fringe.

Now I need a better stand and Barbie needs some shoes.
